● Overview of EIC design and Workgroup plans

Meeting Minutes: EIC Commissioning Tool Development Working Group – Kickoff Meeting

Date: Mar. 17 2025

Time: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM EST

Presentations:

In this kick-off meeting, after the attendee introduction, Yue Hao gave a presentation on the overview of EIC project, preliminary plan for EIC virtual accelerator.  He Reviewed EIC’s updated design, including ion/electron rings, injector systems, cooling systems, and challenges in achieving required luminosity and polarization. The existing lattice design tool includes: MADX, BMAD, Elegant, PARMELA, GPT, while various beam dynamics code was involved for beam-beam space-charge and impedance modeling.  The spin is currently studied using BMAD and Depol. At the end, he share the scope of this working group.

Due to the time limit, Jim's EIC control system talk will be postponed to next meeting.

Discussions:

  • MADX transition to XSUITE: Giovanni provided update on transition from MAD-X to XSuite and interfacing MAD-NG for nonlinear dynamics.   The long-term project should consider the lifespan of MAD-X. The detail of XSuite can be found here: https://indico.cern.ch/event/1489714/
  • Jean-Luc and Yue commented that the discussion and development of this workgroup are also community-beneficial, including supporting ML enhancement.
