The Hubble tension and new physics at the eV scale: The path to New Early Dark Energy

by Martin Snoager Sloth (CP3-Origins, University of Southern Denmark (DK))

Australia/Sydney
Description

I will discuss the possibility that the Hubble tension can be explained by a fast-triggered phase transition in the dark sector. Such a phase transition is called New Early Dark Energy (NEDE) and must have occurred before recombination at the eV scale to resolve the tension fully. After discussing the cosmological NEDE phase transition, I will discuss the details of possible particle physics realizations. In particular, I will discuss if the Hubble tension is a signature of how neutrinos got their mass. It is indeed a natural possibility that the NEDE boson is giving mass to the neutrinos through the inverse seesaw mechanism when it acquires a vacuum expectation value in the NEDE phase transition.
