Correlations between multiparticle cumulants and mean transverse momentum in small collisions with the CMS detector

Correlations between multiparticle cumulants and mean transverse momentum inproton-proton (pp), proton-lead (pPb) and peripheral lead-lead (PbPb) collisions arepresented as a function of charged-particle multiplicity. The data, correspondingto integrated luminosities of 28.6 pb−1for pp at √s = 13 TeV, 186 nb−1for pPb at√sNN= 8.16 TeV, and 0.58 nb−1for PbPb at √sNN= 5.02 TeV, were collected usingthe CMS detector at the LHC. Modified Pearson correlation coefficients of chargedparticles are measured to characterize these events. The two- and four-particle cumulants for the second- and third-order Fourier harmonics are correlated with meantransverse momentum on an event-by-event basis. Sign changes are observed as afunction of multiplicity when using two-particle cumulants in pp and pPb systems. The sign changes disappear as pseudorapidity gaps between the two subevents increase. Predictions based on color-glass condensate and hydrodynamic models arecompared to the experimental results.
