We are pleased to announce the next ECOS Workshop of the European Collaboration on Stable Ion Beams. The workshop will take place at the Hotel Fuerte El Rompido (Huelva, Spain), on July 8-10, 2015. The site is surrounded by the national park, very close to an unspoilt beach and a traditional Spanish fishing village, El Rompido. The meeting will have a particular focus on the physics program and applications of a high-intensity light- and heavy-ion facility and on the technical details of the design and installation of this new facility in Europe.
ECOS is the European Collaboration on Stable ion beams, supported by NuPECC, which gathers nuclear physics users of stable beam accelerators. As our understanding of the nucleus has developed, further advances increasingly require the study and understanding of its more subtle aspects, which demand either more beam time for experiments and/or more beam intensity.
The latest ECOS report explicitly recommended a dedicated high-intensity stable ion beam facility in Europe, with energies at the Coulomb barrier and above. The ECOS-LINCE initiative foresees higher energies for heavy ions and also for light ions up to 200 MeV/nucleon. This facility is considered to be one of the important items for the next Long Range Plan of the nuclear physics community in Europe.
The scope of the meeting will include fundamental and applied research topics arising form the use of high intensity ion beams:
- Superheavy
- Astrophysics
- Nuclear reactions, dynamics and nuclear structure
- Applied nuclear physics
- Technical challenges in high intensity accelerators design
Important events & dates:
