DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Rahel Lea Baumgartner (Universite de Geneve (CH))\,
Vito Pellizzani (University of Oxford)\, Sara Murciano\, Adrien Florio\, C
atherine McCarthy (University of Geneva)\n\nALPS III: Exploring phases of
matter through symmetries and tensor networks\nThe ALPS (Advanced Lectures
in Physics in Switzerland) is a series of junior schools in theoretical p
hysics taking place in the Swiss Mountains. Past editions can be found her
e: ALPS I\, ALPS II. Its principal aim is to lay the foundation for fruitf
ul collaborations between young researchers with a variety of backgrounds.
It is achieved by inspiring discussions between students and through lect
ures that bridge seemingly different areas of modern theoretical physics.
The presence of junior lecturers is designed to further stimulate collabor
ation between students.\nThe 3rd edition will focus on quantum phases of
matter from the perspective of generalized symmetries and tensor networks.
The school will once again take place at the SwissMAP Research station\,
located in the bucolic village of Les Diablerets\, and will feature blackb
oard lectures\, exercise sessions\, a colloquium talk and a closing discus
sion panel\, as well as social and leisure activities. Everything takes pl
ace in the same venue (Hotel Les Sources). The program will be divided int
 o 3 mini-courses of 6h each\, broadly covering the following topics:\n\nTo
pological phases of matter by Carolyn Zhang (Harvard)\nGeneralized and non
-invertible symmetries in quantum field theory by Lea Bottini (IHES)\nIntr
oduction to quantum simulation of lattice gauge theories by Torsten Zache
 (Innsbruck)\n\n \nFurthermore\, our colloquium speaker\, Natalia Chepiga
(Oxford)\, will talk about "The saga of chiral transitions in Rydberg atom
s" and will give a 2h course on tensor networks.\n \nThe school is desig
ned for PhD students in theoretical physics with some quantum field theory
training. Participation of people from underrepresented groups is encoura
ged. Childcare or financial support can be asked for.\n \nRegistration is
open until March 8. The selected participants will be asked to pay a 100
CHF registration fee before April 6.\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is ho
