Description
The most important formation channels of the merging black hole binaries detected by the LIGO/Virgo/KAGRA collaboration involve stellar binaries. Gravitational wave emission is very inefficient for most of the binary evolution. Instead, episodes of mass transfer and common envelope evolution allow the binary to lose energy such that it may eventually merge within a Hubble time. In this talk I will explain how particles beyond the Standard Model can affect these scenarios, and what that may imply for the black holes observed via gravitational waves.
The seminar will be given in person in Niels Bohr, Schuster.
