C++ Programming (Beginner Level)

This 2-day course equips participants with the foundational skills to start programming in C++. It is intended for inexperienced programmers wanting to start a project.

Agenda

  • Basic Program Structure: The participants will understand basic C++ programs and learn how to translate it to be executed on a computer.
  • Comments and Code Blocks: We learn how to structure and comment our code and how to do this well-structured.
  • Basic Types and Operations: Participants will learn about the fundamental data types used in programming and the operations allowed with them.
  • Loops and Conditionals: Our exercises will focus on carrying out repetitive tasks and implementing logical criteria.
  • Container Data Types: Programming languages offer abstract data types (“containers”) to ease programming. In this course we will introduce first abstract data types in the C++ language to set the foundation for application programming.

The course material (slides) will be made available to the class participants.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this tutorial, participants will:

  • have an understanding of the basic C++ code structure
  • knowledge of basic computer data types
  • be introduced to a standard Integrated Development Environment

Prerequisites

  • Ability to navigate the shell (bash) for basic file manipulation and command execution.

 

 

Location: Takes place at the campus Riedberg of Goethe University Frankfurt in room 01.120 of the Physics Building, Max-von-Laue Straße 1. Detailed travel directions will be provided to accepted participants in advance.
