DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Nikolai Husung (CERN)\n\nPrecision-physics tests of
the Standard Model (SM) and searches for physics beyond the SM require pre
cise theory predictions within the SM. Lattice QCD is able to provide non-
perturbative predictions for the strong interaction such as the mass spect
rum for hadrons\, decay constants etc. Uncertainties in any of these predi
ctions directly impact bounds on new physics and must be kept under contro
l.\nI will give a brief overview into the concepts underlying lattice QCD
and highlight some common sources of uncertainties before focusing on the
continuum extrapolation as one of the central steps to extract predictions
for continuum physics but also as an unavoidable source of uncertainty. T
o this end\, I will discuss the systematic description of the asymptotic l
attice-spacing dependence in terms of Symanzik Effective Field Theory\, ou
r current understanding for different lattice formulations\, and some of t
 he gaps remaining.\n\nhttps://indico.global/event/18157/
