Title:
SiPM Signal Reconstruction for Background Tagging in SHiP

Abstract:
The SHiP experiment aims to explore feebly interacting long‑lived particles using a detector concept operating under near‑zero‑background conditions. As part of its background‑suppression strategy, the Surrounding Background Tagger employs liquid‑scintillator cells with SiPM readout to tag particles entering the decay volume. In this talk, I will give a brief introduction to SHiP and then present the work of my master’s thesis, in which I developed and evaluated a reconstruction method for multi‑SiPM readout. The approach decomposes complex signals into single‑photon contributions using template‑based modelling and iterative fitting, enabling reliable photon counting without requiring external timing information. I will discuss the performance of the method across different photon‑multiplicities and outline how such techniques can guide future readout‑electronics developments.
