MIMA - Go with the flow: A mathematical View of Water Waves

What is this talk about?

Why do ocean waves travel so far without fading? And what makes a wave suddenly break? Behind these questions, there is a mathematical story. This talk explores water waves through the lens of nonlinear dispersive equations—the mathematics that describes how waves move, interact, and sometimes collapse. I will introduce my research on the Camassa-Holm equation, touching on concepts like wave breaking and solitons, while also sharing my personal journey through academia as a PhD student.

 

Was ist MIMA? 

Einmal im Monat laden wir zu einer spannenden Vortragsreihe ein, die von Graz Women in Math unterstützt und organisiert wird. Dabei stellt jeweils eine Mathematikerin unseres Instituts in einem 20-minütigen Forschungsvortrag ihr aktuelles Arbeitsgebiet vor. Die Kurzvorträge bieten inspirierende Einblicke in unterschiedliche mathematische Themen und richten sich insbesondere an Bachelor- und Masterstudierende sowie Dissertant*innen (Mathematik und Lehramt). Ziel ist es, die Vielfalt mathematischer Forschung sichtbar zu machen und zum Austausch über mögliche Themen für Abschlussarbeiten und Dissertationen anzuregen.

Nach dem Vortrag bleibt genügend Zeit für lockere Diskussionen und Fragen in einer informellen Atmosphäre. Für alle Teilnehmenden gibt es außerdem eine kostenlose Lunchbox!
