Summary of Discussion

  1. Open Call for FY25–26 Funding

    • An open call has been announced for FY25–26 funding related to TDAQ activities for FCC.

    • While individual submissions are allowed, there is a strong incentive to submit joint proposals to improve the likelihood of receiving funding, as the total available funding is expected to be limited.

  2. Simulation Needs

    • There is a recognized gap in simulation capabilities: while some work has been done by the simulation group, there is currently no digitization step implemented.

    • Digitization is essential for TDAQ efforts, especially for estimating data rates.

    • Full Geant4 simulation exists for the CLD detector, but it's unclear whether other experimental concepts have comparable Geant4 simulations or any digitization implemented.

      • Action: Follow up with European colleagues to clarify the status of digitization for other detector concepts.

  3. Potential US Contributions

    • Vertexing Detectors:

      • A proposed approach is to apply both LHC-like (CMS/ATLAS-style pixel digitization) and ALICE-like digitization models to vertex detectors.

      • This would allow estimation of data rates and a study of sensitivity to digitization models.

    • Dual Readout Calorimeters:

      • As these are being developed within the US, collaboration with the development teams was discussed.

      • The goal would be to encourage those groups to implement digitization to enable reliable data rate estimates.

  4. Long-Term Goals

    • In both detector paths, a key area of interest is assessing opportunities for triggering and on detector data processing including zero suppression, and how such processing might be implemented.

    • Evaluate the data rates.
    • A detailed understanding of beam backgrounds is also necessary.

      • Action: Investigate the extent to which beam backgrounds are currently integrated into the simulation chain.

Action Items

  • Confirm digitization status of other detector concepts with European collaborators.

  • Begin prototype digitization for vertex detectors using both ALTAS/CMS-like and ALICE-like models.

  • Engage with dual readout calorimeter developers to encourage digitization efforts.

  • Follow up on beam background modeling in simulations.
