DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Doris Gruber (Austrian Academy of Sciences)\n\nAI is
  transforming how we approach images of the past and present. This worksho
 p is dedicated to the subject of AI-supported object detection\, image cla
 ssification and iconographic analysis\, with a focus on drawn\, painted an
 d printed content. \nWe invite proposals for contributions that draw on la
 rge- and small-scale datasets and explore the current possibilities and li
 mitations of AI in this area. Potential topics include but are not limited
  to:\n·       How AI is currently employed in art historical resear
 ch and writing to detect\, classify and analyse artworks\n·       C
 hallenges surrounding pretrained models (mostly trained on modern photogra
 phic material) and the creation of new training data and models\n·   
     Controlled vocabularies and their application in AI-based art histo
 rical research\n·       The development of AI tools specifically ta
 ilored to art history\n·       Ethical and legal considerations sur
 rounding the use of AI in art historical research.\nThe event is jointly o
 rganised by Doris Gruber\, head of the Art History Research Unit of the In
 stitute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies (IHB)\, Maria Theisen\, head of th
 e Department for Paleography and Codicology of the Institute for Medieval 
 Research (IMAFO)\, and the thematic platform Machine Learning (MLA2S) at t
 he Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna\, Austria.\nConfirmed keynote sp
