Description
The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) is a next-generation long-baseline neutrino experiment designed to study neutrino oscillations with unprecedented precision. It will utilize an intense neutrino beam directed from Fermilab (Chicago) to two detector complexes: a near detector at Fermilab and a far detector located approximately 1.5 km underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in South Dakota. One of the far detector (FD) modules will implement the Vertical Drift (VD) liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) technology, where ionized electrons drift vertically from a cathode plane positioned at mid-height within the active volume. The photon detection system (PDS) will be installed along the cathode and behind the field cage to enhance photon collection efficiency. However, the presence of high voltage (~300 kV) at the cathode prevents the use of conventional copper cables for power delivery. To address this, Power-over-Fiber (PoF) technology will be deployed, enabling optical power transmission via optical fibers to the PDS. In this talk, I will present the ongoing R&D efforts to develop and validate PoF components for operation in harsh environments and discuss its novel application in the VD photon detection system.
Dr. Biswaranjan Behera is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, USA and plays a lead role in R&D of Power-over-Fiber technology for DUNE Vertical Drift Photon Detection System. Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) is a next generation neutrino experiment that will explore CP violation in the leptonic sector and address the long standing neutrino mass hierarchy problem.
The event is open for everyone but registration is required.
Tea and snacks will be server after the event.
Students are encouraged to discuss about internship opportunities and the current trends and status of experimental high energy physics in and outside India.
